Not everyone, Peter. The small-time fraudsters on eBay get hammered pretty hard. It's pretty easy to express outrage over and call out the nickel-and-dimers. Some guy in Des Moines selling a fake $500 T206 stands no chance around here.

Thank goodness.

Well, if the small-time fraudster wants protection on Net 54 he simply has to conspire with some of the posters to make cash fraudulently. Then the support comes out of the woodwork in droves -- with most barely concealing their obvious bias.

WOW! Just wow....and all of this with the FBI hanging around??? And I agree with Mark F. what a terrible shame that they "wreck" one intact jersey and end up with two altered jerseys.

Default Laughing out loud at Teflon Man

"Affixing thread color variations and the extensive edge wear suggest strongly that the "C" is original and that the Bear logo was replaced after initial season usage."

Never mind that he KNOWS the source of the Bear logo (so the whole "strongly suggest" thing is BS) and that he knew it was replaced about 90 years "after initial season usage" so that is BS too. Unbelievable.

For the name of our forthcoming self-service auction site, Leon and I gave great thought to using the name GreatGuyAuctions.com though we ultimately decided against it.

What FBI? I am starting to think either they found nothing that could be prosecuted or they are as ineffectual as so many other arms of government.

I agree that for most collectors "stuff trumps all." But crap like this still lowers the value of all "stuff" in the auction, or at least all game used stuff. It diminishes bidders' confidence that the stuff they are getting is the stuff advertised. Would you really spend a quarter million dollars on a Ruth jersey with these guys? How could you possibly be assured it was legit and unaltered? That doubt has to affect bidding.
