In my opinion there would be an increase in value if the item had been signed at an earlier time, but that increase would depend on the player.
The examples used, Mantle, Jordan, Lemieux, I can see how you would get a multiplier for those early examples. But personally, I would not pay too much of a premium for others who were not HOF'ers, and even then, it would depend on who it was. Willie Mays may be another player who I would think would sell for multiple, but I am not familiar with his early sigs. I just paid multiple the normal price for an early Mantle autograph, but I thought the price was worth it for a more rare signature. I would be interested to hear what others have to say on this subject. |
