Let me try another grouping
Brooklyn's shortstops.... Leo Durocher, 1939, 113 games at short Pee Wee Reese, 1940 to 1942 Arky Vaughan, 1943, 99 games at short I think there are more trio's than we suspect... |

Technically, Frank you are correct....when Reese served in WWII, Vaughn replaced him at SS for the Dodgers.
This succession is valid, but not quite the same as rookies succeeding veteran players. Great research, guy. TED Z |

Since Ted's trivia is answered (unless someone finds another trio), let me throw out a pair:
1) Who is the only player to have identical batting average, home run, and R.B.I. totals in two consecutive seasons? 2) Who is the only player to hit exactly 40 home runs for four consecutive seasons? |

Adam Dunn is the answer to the 2nd question (I think).

Hang on now....
I think I had 2 right answers up there that antedate Williams, Yaz, & Rice, in fact my two groups did it before either Yaz or Rice were born. 1- Kelly, Frisch, and Horsnby 2- Durocher, Reese, and Vaughan And I think there are more. Now, on to Barry's 1st question... Last edited by FrankWakefield; 07-18-2009 at 10:35 AM. |
