I'd like to see the scan up on the board. If someone else hasn't posted it for you, please email it to me and I'll get it up.
Does the card have very white borders? It might have been bleached or Oxycleaned a bit... I've never seen nor heard of a green back on these. |

Probably.......
Chemically removed from a scrapbook. This will cause the ink to change colors.

residue
As Scott said it looks like it has some residue on it and was taken from a scrapbook. It might look more "green" in person due to that...

It is pretty white,i just thought it was strange that this was the only card out of 219 that looked this way. This collection did come from REA, maybe the previous owner tried the bleaching and did not like it? Also it does have residue on the back,as some of the cards have been removed or taken out of a scrap book.

Hey Chris,
I got the scans you emailed, I'm home for lunch and see that Leon's already posted it. The front borders look very white. When looking at the back of Duffy, the one on the right, the borders look wobbly, not straight. If he's loose I'd soak him one time, for 2 reasons. 1- some of that non-original residue might release, thereby unaltering the card. 2- if someone did bleach it a bit, a soaking overnight would help to dilute any remaining chemicals, making them less likely to affect the card in years to come. I'm posting the front scan you sent so folks can see that a bit of the image on the front of Duffy is gone, especially in the top right. That could be from a bit of bleaching, or it could be from other causes. Also, Foxen is a name I recognize from series 2 of those great Old Mill red border cards... Frank W. |

definitely
should run a black light over it....

Leon.... and you'd done so well, I'd been thinking of thanking you.
From looking at it, I think it is authentic, and that it will not fluoresce when illuminated with uv light. Still, everything is usually better if you run a black light over it. Even a fellow's jacket and shirt collar... |

If I recall correctly according to REA's lot description, both of those are trimmed, so already knowing it is trimmed may lend increasing weight to the possibility it was "cleaned" as well.

"Of course, that's not to say you couldn't get the grading companies to slab it as a green-back variation."

I bought a group of 6-8 1910 Obak commons a little while back that were glued to a sheet of green poster board. Looked as if they'd been hung in a picture frame at some point in the last 10 years or so. I decided to soak them to remove the poster board and was subsequently distracted by something shiny and neglected to remove them from the water for a day or so. When I did remove them, the backs were green (still are), just like yours.

In REA's auction they listed DUFFY (TRIMMED) which my friend agrees with.
CHANCE (slight trim) but in an SGC holder with no comments other than A auth. I have busted it out to send to PSA and it looks good to my friend we think it will grade very well also. FLICK they put (slight trim) and we will be sending it to PSA as well because it looks to be ok also. I already have an offer on the DUFFY (trimed) and as for the FOXEN which is already spooken for my friend says it is not trimmed if anybody sends it in to get graded and it comes back (trimmed) i will refund there money in FULL and half of all costs to get it graded by anybody they choose for the return of the card. Frank
I was just messing with ya. Hey, what are friends for? Actually though I would think that if it has been bleached, and it really does look like it from the scan, then it probably will fluoresce a different color....

Well, since my thought was that PSA is more likely to miss some trimmed cards, I'd have to agree you'll do better on the resale with PSA

Chris, if Duffy isn't slabbed and if you still have it, please consider soaking it in a big glass of water overnight. If it has been bleached, that will eat at the card forever, unless you help remove it with a soaking. Someday, someone will see that card gradually lose its image from that bleaching. A soaking might prevent or postpone that.
