This article is a phenomenal laugh -- could you imagine anyone writing about baseball like that today? The best thing is at the end you see that they were still 15,000 shy of a sellout, so it was a disappointing turnout. Funny article -- great find -- thanks!

The game must have been important enough to McGraw, to the point of him getting benched for arguing a call.
We don't see that much enthusiasm during the current All-Star games and definitely not pre-season exhibtions. RC

Post season city series were common for many decades prior to WWII. Ultimately they were prohibited so as not to detract from the World Series going on at the same time. They often attracted a lot of attention in Chicago where they were held most years between 1903 and 1942 when neither team won the pennant. In 1903 the teams split 14 games.
