Jay, that is a fantastic card ! Helen really liked baseball more than your average fan. Great collectable for a fan of OJ era baseball, especially one who likes NY. Are examples of Helen Dauvray tough to come by (I suspect they are)? That would be a great companion piece with one of the Dauvray pins (I'm aware of three from 1887 Detroit team).

Joe--Her cards are available, although like most cards from the period not too available, if you know what I mean. She comes listed as Helen Dauvray, or, more preferably, as Helen Dauvray Ward. The only cards I have seen in the latter format are an Old Judge actress card in which she is wearing a large hat, and the Our Knocker Cigar card. I agree with you--she played an important role in early baseball, not only by donating the Dauvray Cup, but by being an outspoken female supporter for the game. BTW, I have always thought that a strong arguement could be made for including her Old Judge card in the baseball Old Judge "set".

And that's why that's the most beautiful card of the 19th century! Stellar pickup, Matt.

Default Anson

Matt - that's a great looking Anson for the grade. Is there staining on the back or a crease I can't see?

Thanks Erich (and Seth) - no creases and the back is clean; the T/B centering is cause for the grade.
