Different sport, but the circa 1909 James Jeffries Championship Boxers player card set is great. High quality and featuring all the day's greats-- Jeffries, Sullivan, Jack Johnson, Abe Attell et al. Fronts include ports of the boxers or scenes from famous matches. The back of each pictures Jeffries in a bowler. You can find singles and complete sets. The original box is often found with a tax stamp, which is kind of note.

This is kind of a cool one I found that was in a stack of 30 or so cards (each featuring a different product like a monkey for a buck, etc.), which also came with a small stack of smaller cards representing different monetary denominations. It may have been a early game of playing like one was running a store or something.
