Short of installing a more recent browser, you might be able to get away with installing the latest version of Flash from here:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

you'll need to restart your browser once you install to see if it helps.

I too have IE ver 6 at work and was not able to access Chat. Here at home I use Google Chrome and can access Chat fine.

As I said, if you are using IE6, try installing the latest Flash software from the link I posted above.

One more update: it turns out Yahoo email IS fixed after all - the person I asked to check couldn't see his SPAM folder but the messages were there.
