Default T210 Pleasures

Posted By: Bill Stone

Leo Angermeier ( frequently misspelled Angmeier) is depicted on
two T210 Series 6 cards ( portrait and fielding). He was born in
Louisville, Kentucky in 1889 and began his baseball career with local Louisville teams. In 1908 he joined the Frankfort Lawmakers of the Blue Grass League. In 1909 he played in 116 games for Frankfort and in 1910 he played in 127 games (97 as catcher). Following the 1910 season he went on to play for the New Orleans Pelicans. Leo Angermeier died in Louisville, Kentucky on July 1, 1919 at the age of 29. Two other family matters are of note: Leo's brother Louis J. Angermeier was also an accomplished baseball player and he actually played in the Blue Grass League in 1908. Like his brother he also died an early death from an abscess of the liver on September 23, 1911 at the age of 25. Another family tragedy was the death of their father , Captain Theodore Angermeier. On March 28, 1890 a cyclone ( tornado) hit Louisville, Kentucky. Captain Angermeier had been at a lodge meeting moments before the cyclone hit and according to a family member I interviewed Captain Angermeier was climbing the stairs to leave the building when his hat blew off, as he went to retrieve his hat the cyclone hit collapsing the building and killing him. Leo Angermeier is buried in the family plot in St. Michaels Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
