Default Spider Baum Cards Wanted

Posted By: Rhett Yeakley

Here is Spider's checklist...

Baum, Charles A. (Spider)
1911 Big Eater Salons
1911 D310
1911 D311
1911 E100 Type I
1911 T4
1909 T212-1
1910 T212-2 (175)
1911 T212-3
1911 Zeenuts
1912 Zeenuts
1913 Zeenuts
1914 Zeenuts
1915 Zeenuts
1916 Zeenuts
1917 Zeenuts
1918 Zeenuts
1919 Zeenuts
1920 Zeenuts

Spider was EXTREMELY popular in the PCL where he played between 1903 and 1920. While he never "made" the Major Leagues, that was likley due to him choosing to remain on the Pacific Coast. He is a member of the PCL Hall of Fame, and among the early PCL stars he ranks right up there with the best of the bunch.

You'll like this interesting exerpt from Horne's Zeenut's book... (reprinted from San Francisco Examiner article (5-26-1943) by Prescott Sullivan)
"...Kid's used to flip the pasteboards against the wall and the kid whose card came closest to the line took the works. We'll never forget the day we lost a treasured picture of "Spider" Baum in this manner. Baum, Seals pitcher, was a great favorite in those days and his picture was regarded as worth two or three of any other player because it was said to be "rare." The candy company which distributed the pictures often put out more of one player than they did another... Baum's was one of them..."

Here are a few of my Spider's...
