Can you read the photographer's imprint at the bottom? That will give you a clue as to where the team is from. If it's a minor league team you may have a chance at identifying the player if it's just a town team then good luck...you may never know. It also appears to be circa 1910. |

The letters on the jersey appear to be W D and M...figure out what those letters represent and you're halfway home. |

If I had to guess I'd say it stands for "Dover Athletic Association". Dover is the closest town to York that starts with a "D". |

Antique cabinet cards, tintypes, etc can have value even if the player and team is not identified. For most tintypes, the player and team is unknown, and baseball tintypes generally sell for fair dollar. |

Robert, have you taken our suggestions and looked to see what "D" Athletic Associations may have existed near York, PA? I'm afraid nobody is going to take the time to do this for you. |

Yes, I have tried quite a bit but have found nothing much with that name. Ok I get it I will not ask any more questions about this card. I just figured this may be the place where someone might know. I guess one must really be pretty sharp to know this one. Rob |

Thanks to a lurker who emailed me I have found out that it is not Ivan but Alva Spangler and so far all I have found on him is that he played for South Bend and was playing first base. The following is what I have found. Rob----- In 1904 Frank "Red" Herbert died a day after a collision with South Bend's first baseman Alva Spangler |
