I travelled from Calgary, Canada a couple years ago and stayed in Secaucus, New Jersey. The hotel was way cheaper than New York, it offered a great free breakfast, and there was a bus stop right across the street - the bus took us to Penn Station in Manhattan in about half an hour. Once there, you can take the subway to Yankee stadium.
