I need to know what the identity of this pin is. Any help would be appreciated. It and a group PM-10 stadium pinsbacks will be on Ebay soon.

Hi Lance,
That pin isnt a PM10 stadium pin. It is a fantasy or repro pin made many years later. Prob. in the 80s. Most(no all) stadium pins, dont have that kind of pin for the back, if it is 1 3/4 inch size. It would be just a straight pin going down not the bayonet style. There is no Joe Dimaggio stadium pin like that. If you want to send me a scan of the others I would be happy to help you out. Al

What exactly does PM-10 mean? I've seen it a million times and it doesn't seem to apply to any single set. It seems to apply to all kinds of pins. Thanks.

PM,PX,PE,PB,PR,P, are all catalogue designations for the various pins. P is for pin the second letter is more of a mystery. PB is for (pins bread)Kolbs,Mrs Sherlocks, P or P1 is for cameo pepsin the first pin set.P2 sweet caporal. PE (pin early) ornate frames. PX Domino Discs, Double Header, PR cracker jack, orbit PM PM10 stadium pins, PM15 yellow basepath,PM8 our national game. The american card catalogue was the first I believe to assign them these letters and numbers but some make no sense.

Al is correct
This is one of a series of “character” pins made in the late 70s early 80s
I remember them being sold in souvenir shops in Manhattan back then
They were not just baseball players in this series but also entertainment figures like the Three Stooges and Humphrey Bogart (I think I still have the Stooges set somewhere)

I also remember them being sold buy a dealer by the name of Foster Pollock
Pollock sold more fake pins than anyone I know of at antique, collectible shows and Beatlefests back in the 1970s and 1980s
He used to lie about them being real which was not nice at all

I bought one of my first big deals from him in 1984 (I was 23)
It was an amazing collection of over 100 press pins going back to 1914

The deal was like $8000 (a mint back then) and I needed a family friend to put up the money, Woody Waga
Woody brought a gun along
I wondered who he thought was going to shoot him, myself or Foster, a dealer I had known since I was 10?

In a sad and ironic happening in this crazy business Foster was killed while coming back from a show in an accident in his van
The Reicher mounts full of pins came crashing forward in the collision and crushed him
He was essentially killed by his fake merchandise

True story

Josh

Hello Josh,
Been a long time since we talked last. One of the Rothstein shows back in the late 80s. Thanks for the great story ! That name Foster Pollock brings back some very bad memories. So much fake stuff and many bad burns with him!!
Im sure you have some very bad memories. By the way I still have the uniform !!Thanks for the great story. Al
