MatthewAnthony, thank you for the response.
I buy both ungraded & graded. It makes me no difference if it fits my budget & is a card I like. I don't buy raw cards with the intent of grading them. I have busted a few out though (Beckett is the most fun) & have had exactly 1 card submitted to PSA. My local card shop charges $15 to send cards with his PSA submissions.
It never fails that any time I sell a few cards, I will get a few questions from potential buyers wondering if the cards will get a numerical grade. So the last time I had to sell, I thought about getting them graded. I looked on the SGC site to see about a submission. In the end, I just could not justify spending 10-50% of the value of the cards (T's & E's valued at anywhere from $30-$200). Now, any time I trade or sell a card to someone who says they will grade the card, I offer a return policy as follows == any card rejected by PSA, SGC, or GAI can be returned for full refund. I have yet to receive a card back. I think I can tell as well as the graders if it is real, fake, trimmed, etc. I occasionally have a buyer just want to know if it will receive an Authentic grade. That does make a lot of sense. I can certainly understand a buyer wanting to make sure he does not receive a fake.
If I had some very expensive cards, I would see no problem in grading it for protection, but grading a card just for sake of a number has always puzzled me.
