Default "No Name" T206's....does anyone have these ?

Posted By: Pennsylvania Ted

Just acquired this Fiene card which has a faint hint of a fractional part of his name on it's top border. This card
sizes up correctly....and it made me wonder if anyone has a T206 which has No Name or caption printed on it ?

Ted, I don't think it would be missing the name if it had the bottom border.

Miscuts with names chopped in half or even showing both top and bottom are collected by some. Like me.

Are all T206 miscuts top to bottom? Basically, is there any side to side T206 miscuts in existence?

This is probably the closest I have to a no-name:

I personally love name-at-top and double-name T206's. What's great is that the grading companies kill them for the miscut even if the card otherwise looks great. This is one of my favorite common portraits in the set - I was totally stoked to find this one with almost two full names:

I'd have to look it up, but I think I paid more than the going rate for an SGC 40, which is how the card was graded, but it's way nicer and much more interesting than the typical 40.

Here go Ted, This card measures correctly and has no signs of a name on it.

I also have this one but not sure if it has been tampered with or not.

The double name cards seem to be fairly common varirations. I think I have owned at least a dozen without even trying to get them.

I have several with double names...I think those are cool.

I also have had some with no name on front and/or partial names....all altered, yet difficult to detect. Some are completely blank in the name area and others have no ink but still maintain the raised letters (hard to do). Again, unless it's a printers scrap, I would be very leery of everything that has anything missing unless you get it checked out first

From experience, NNOF alterations are not difficult to tell if seen in person.

I do have 4 of them; they are loads of fun.
They are in sgc authentic holders and are absolutely enticing to those who
take a look.

best,

My guess would be that Ted Z's no-name was at the top of the sheet, so there was no name above it. When the card was miscut, there was no name to appear on the top of the card.

What I don't understand is the various fractions of names that you can find on top and bottom. One of the cards in this thread has a full name on top and bottom. Others have about half a name on top and half a name on bottom. If the cards were uniformly spaced apart, how could this be?

That's a neat "No-Name" card of Merkle, and with a LENOX back, to boot.....great stuff.

Here are a few more that I have. The Collins and Willis barely have a hint of their names on top.

If I remember correctly I believe there are some T206s out there that have double names but 2 different names.

The curious thing about the Merkle is that it now resides in a SGC 10 holder, I would think that it would be at least a 30 maybe even a 40. Not sure if it got deducted because it has no name.

I have an oversized T206 that has dissimilar names (top & bottom); but, I can't find it.
I acquired it back in the '80s, and can't recall the player or the two names.

Anyhow, as you know, examples of T206's with two diferent names are seldom seen.

I got this Ryan Roanoke for Christmas, from my wife, several years ago. Back then she'd order a few cards for me for Christmas, or for the day after, my birthday. When I saw this one I tried to guard my expression. And as time has gone by I kinda like it. There's just about enough card there, from top to bottom, for me to think that this run of Ryan cards had no name anywhere. I figure some folks would have pitched such a card into the trash, ten decades ago...

Frank.

Thanks for showing us your Ryan. It is the nicest looking "no-name" T206 that I've ever seen.
And, a great story to go with it.

brian- i remember seeing that lundgren...very signifigant (IMO), because it has a different player's name on top...

kevin- that card looks a little questionable to me, as the area where the name should be is dirty, and might have been erased?
