T206 American Beauty Backs

After our great thread about the EPDG back, I got to thinking that I do not think I have ever seen a tougher T206 card in an American beauty back.

I will use the toughness ranks on Readers T206 book with possible AB backs. Here are the players I would be interested in whether anyone has AB backs.

Elberfeld, Wash.
Smith, Chic. & Boston, I have a Cycle 460 and Pied 460, fact 42
Dahlen, Brooklyn
Joe Doyle
Brown, Wash. (why is this card so short?)
Kleinow, Boston
O'Neil (What makes him so tough?)
Adkins
Lundgren, KC
Rhoades, arm extended
Smith, white cap
Nichols, Bat
Needham

I have 16 AB backs but with Leifeld batting being the highest raking at 101 on Scot's list.

Edited to eliminate cards that were not possible in AB backs.

Great idea for a thread, Lee!

I do have an elberfield washington with a beauty 350 no frame, but it's the fielding.
i bet you're after the portrait.
no AB for the rest of those you mention.
Since you mention the Cycle and pied 42 on the list of cards, i should note that the Lundgren KC I have is Carolina
Brights. Hope this helps.

Currently, I have about 600+ T206's. These are the Am. Bty backs I have....

Devore...............AB 460

Leach (w/cap).....AB 460

Overall (sunset)....AB 350

Quillen................AB 350 (frame)

Wheat................AB 460


LEE....Doyle (which ?) and Schulte (front) are not available with Am Bty backs.

I have Adkins of Baltimore with an AB 350 back with frame. I have 10 other AB backs out of 514 total T206's I possess.

From the early data it appears that the AB's did not start until the 350 only series. A quick scan thru Scots list and I did not find any cards that were in the 150 only series.

The Nichols is at 85 in the ranking and the toughest so far.

Another great thread. Should be interesting who holds the card of the rarest Reader ranking out of respondants here.

I have:

3 out of 180 or so.

Burke PSA 3 AB 350
Egan PSA 3 AB 350
Lattimore PSA 1 AB 350

Anybody up to a running tabulature of the responses with rarity index?

This thread should keep me reading for a good while.

I have 99 different American Beauty backs. Hard to list them all. Of the tough ones mentioned at the top of the thread, I have:

so it seems the ab 460's are approximately 4-5 times tougher than the 350's. I've changed my mind, my 2 favorite backs are hindu red and am beauty.

The highest on the ranking so far is 2 O'Neills, and 2 Nichols, nothing so far from the really tough cards that command a decent premium.

Did these cards only come in certain backs thus there scarcity? Is this a subject for a diffeerent thread?

Have Adkins and Latham -I think they are below O'Neil but above Nicholls on Readers list.

Not sure how this fits in but I hope it helps.

Remember Readers list is from what has shown up on ebay and maybe recent auctions. There are many T206s on ebay but I bet there are at least 10 to 20x that have not seen ebay and never will. There are probably many early collectors who still don't use a computer!
