While the answer is, I guess, obvious (putting fans in seats in the ballpark), I wonder if the Giants owners and management couldnīt have done a better job controlling Bondīs more aberrant behavior. Instead they put up with stuff for their "super star" that would have sent most players looking for other teams, eg. building him a separate space in the locker room (now there is great way to build team spirit),his nearly inhumane treatment of the press, fighting with his teammates etc. It seemed that as long as he keept hitting them deep, the Giants would tolerate most anything. And if he did indeed abuse steroids the way it is being portrayed then I can hardly belíeve that the front office didnīt know about it. Perhaps Barry took too many lessons from his Godfather, Willie Mays, who I saw reduce to tears young fans with his disgusting behavior at card shows. |
