When it comes to auction house items I have tried both ways, waiting until the last moment and then bidding so I can bid in the 30 minute window, and I have put my max in early securing my "sweet spot" for the item. I am not sure which is better, but I have found that waiting often causes me more money, The item I usually want has the sweet spot already taken and I have to go higher if I want the item. Now, I dont know if the other person would go higher had I secured that max bid spot or not.
Talking to some regular bidders they tell me that they bid once early so they can get into the 30 minute bidding and just sit back and let the item go after their intial bid.
