i have heard that there are browns champs out there in the G and B set. also that some of these are actually line drawings. does anyone out there have any scans to show. or maybe a scan of the ewing next to the urn?

I think you mean Kelly next to the post? It's known in Four Base Hits and Yum Yum, and I've even seen a cabinet of that pose; does anyone know if a G&B has been found? Yes, there are some Browns Champs known, but I don't believe that the images are quite as clear and crisp as the N172 poses. They almost have a line-drawing look. One of the regular posters on this board has the largest G&B collection- he can answer these questions more accurately.

Isn't the Al Spalding "line drawing" card from that G&B set?

Can we get a scan of that beauty again?

Yes, the Spalding is from that set, and although it's a portrait the image has a kind of poorly defined quality, similar to the Brown's Champs. For some reason some of the portraits were not well executed.

yes i did mean the kelly, similar to leons FBH. the G and B version is listed in lew's encyclopedia and i have heard from a few people that it does in fact exist. if the collector with all the G and Bs is out there can you post a few scans for us to look at. it would be interesting to see the browns champs or even a yum yum browns champ.

i think this was covered before but the line drawing are acutally photographs of the drawing, not engravings that were printed, like number 7 cigars, correct?

Attached is an example of a St. Louis G & B. Oddly enough, I have never seen a Yum Yum example of a St. Louis player.

When Leon adopts a dwarf, he can use this to be his mini-me.

It is also worth pointing out that the Kelly has two major creases and they have been reinforced by scotch tape (or in Kelly's case, Irish?) on the back. Probably wouldn't grade above an SCG 10 and therefore is worthless. I will be using it to light my kitchen stove tonight, as I have run out of Old Judge proofs.

Julie, that's not Leon's. Leon has a 4 Base Hits. The scan on this thread is a Yum Yum, with the same pose.

Richard- I'm sure there are a few members on the board who will be sending you a full box of deluxe blue tip matches for your stove in exchange for disposing of your Kelly and saving you the risk of starting a kitchen fire. I've heard Yum-Yums are quite combustible.

truly awesome cards. i think these cards are another example, similar to the t210 jackson, of cards that were issued with 'wavy borders' and irregular cuts. i wish the grading companies, especially sgc, would take the time to train some of their head graders in learning and understanding the nuances of some of the more uncommon sets like these.

David, to answer your earlier question, all the cards are photographs even the ones with sketches.

Funny way to store that Kelly--in a plastic toploader...
