This is going to be really difficult to explain. There is no evidence of restoration when you look at the card back. The restorers were able to remove the actress image without going all the way through the back of the card. In a sense, they basically "dug" out the image, rather than cutting it out. Therefore, the Burkett image essentially sits in a "tray" that was left behind when the actress image was removed. This is preferable because:

1.) The card is more stable because it was adhered on the back rather than on the edges.

2.) The edges of the trimmed Burkett were not changed or damaged in any way.

3.) The background of the actress card was brown. The outermost edge of the actress image was left to create the border around the Burkett image.

The card looks even better in person than I had hoped it would, and it looks much better than the scans represent. I am very pleased with the process and the results.
