Default W517 Hornsby - what is this???

Posted By: hankron

There was a particularly interesting 'find' about the wrestling art. There is one card that is the 'Honus Wagner' of Exhibit wrestling cards, with only one example of the card known to exist. There has always been wonderment about why the card was so rare. I was going through the original wrestling photos for the cards and came across the original art for the card. On the art, the Exhibit editor/printer wrote that the card was to be removed from the set, which card was to replace it in the set and the date it was removed from the set. Case solved.

Also, for a particular set, Exhibit would make a series of finished painted photos, but only about 80 percent of the art would be used to make cards. Some poses and even some indivuduals were removed from the set. The unused ones are are known as the 'ghost' Exhibit cards.
