The "baseball age" of a player can change due to a particular situation. Gene Mauch is a perfect case in point. When he started out as a player, I believe he first claimed to be older. Then, as he aged, he went back to his true D.O.B. Once he started his managerial career, he actually bumped his age up a couple of years to add the appearance of "extra maturity".
