I agree it's a parody, but Leon, Gloversville is a very real city in NY where one of the best known and widely collected glove makers in history, Ken Wel, was based originally. The name is merely a coincidence. I believe the town was founded by the "Glovers" family", and has nothing to do with baseball gloves.

Here is a picture of some Ken Wel tags, a couple of which list the "Gloversville, NY" name.
