...persist, but the media doesn't cover it as much. I suspect if you talk to any players directly they'll tell you everybody's got a nickname of some kind, some less colorful than others. They virtually never refer to each other by the first or last name alone. One of my favorites of today is "El Brujo" for Ramiro Mendoza, now of the Red Sox. When he was with the Yankees they called him "El Brujo," which means something like "Witch Doctor". And then there's "El Duque" of course. Tim "Rock" Raines.
