Default Gunning and Gleason Photo on ebay?

Posted By: J Levine

First off, I don't think that is Gunning...it does look like Gleason. The era is definitely off. The gloves are wrong and the uniforms don't look right for that time. The caps of the Phillies around that time were almost always white even in pictures where they are wearing dark uniforms. Around 1886 the "Phila" logo is found on the front of the jerseys...I did not notice the belt buckle but will trust more knowledgeable people. The next problem is the team identity. He says Quakers...The Quakers formed in 1873 and was in the National Association. The team folded in 1875. The National League Phillies of which Gunning and Gleason were members started play in 1883. They did use the Quakers moniker again in the teens and '20s.

Gleason did not join the team until 1888. He played with them until 1891 and then returned to the Phillies from 1903-1908.

Gunning only played one year for the Phillies. 1887.

Gleason did do vaudville which this truly looks like. It would not surprise me any that the other players might be from different teams as well. I would put this photo around 1909-1910.

My two cents.
