I don't know if there's anybody on the board with the same tastes in literature as mine, but as for Southerners starting anew to leave the Civil War behind them, there is no better story (and hardly a better-constructed, better-written novel--of any era) than William Faulkner's Absalom Absalom.

Unfortunately, there are no baseball cards in it; not even any baseball, but a little bit of very primitive boxing or wrestling...
