+1000. If I hear any more about how "we need a salary cap in baseball" my head is going to explode. Spend some money or sell the team to someone who will.
You've got it backward . If the Dodgers who have the second highest (or highest depending on your accounting) payroll in MLB repeat as World Series champions, the bitching and moaning about the rich teams buying championships will just increase.

But the Toronto Blue Jays aren't exactly a tight fisted team either. Their payroll is the fifth highest.

I don't like any of those. How about these instead?

1) Vancouver Devil Rays
2) Ottawa Nationals
3) Calgary Rockies
4) Edmonton (Forest) Rangers

I'd rename them all though.

I guess you're right about the bitching and moaning. I wonder how Angels fans and Pirates fans seem fine about their owners making assloads of money while fielding losers every single season.

And it's not even like the Jets and the New York Football Giants where the organizations spend money but still suck. Those are incompetent organizations. It's almost like it's the business model of the Angels and the Pirates to suck to the point just above where fans can still take it. They're not incompetent organizations at all. If I were a fan of those teams, I'd be insulted that the owner takes me for such a chump.

What is it you think I have backward? I know the complaining will increase. My point is that it's a ridiculous complaint.

Ridiculous? How?

Is it ridiculous for a business owner to treat his business as a business as opposed to operating it for the community in the public interest?

And don't you think that a less competitive "playing field" is not in MLB's best interests? MLB 's share of the pro sports market does seem to have dwindled in the last 75 years.

I'm not sure what you're talking about here, or how you got there from my comment.

Owning an MLB team is a license to print money. All the owners and the league overall are in great financial shape. The cheapskate owners would love a salary cap because they, at least in some cases, would get to pay players less than what they're worth.

Question

If there appears to be a correlation between rich teams and championship teams, how is such a complaint "ridiculous"? What's wrong with more competitive balance? Does that not make a sport more rather than less interesting?

All teams (owners) are rich. It's a question of how much the owners want to spend on fielding a championship level team. As long as you have 4-5 teams with owners who are spendthrift dreamers and fans of both baseball and their cities, that's good enough for competitive balance. Let the junior varsity teams play each other during the regular season, but when it comes to the playoffs, I'm perfectly fine watching the juggernauts thrash it out.

It was almost as if they knew what pitches the Dodgers were going to throw before they threw them.

Thanks, this will sound crazy but after watching the accompanying interview I’d rather listen to Geddy Lee talk about baseball than anybody - Hope they don’t miss an opportunity to invite him into the booth

"Hitting is timing; pitching consists of upsetting timing." - Warren Spahn

Did the Dodgers merely trot a series of fireballers out to the mound? Do the Dodgers actually have any pitchers who can throw a knuckleball or even a screwball to upset the timing of opposing batters?

That kind of dancing draws snickers anywhere outside of La La Land. It's not something that would go over big in Hoboken or Hamtramck let alone across international borders.

Like every other team in the playoffs, the Dodgers are underestimating the Jays. The Jays are good 1-9 in the lineup with a bunch of moving parts. Dodgers relievers are awful too. Jays in 4.

How demoralizing must it have been for the Jays to know that Yama got better the more times he faced their lineup. It's almost like he's picking up more intel on the batters than the other way around. Take that, Billy Beane!

Also, I think that for the Cy Young and perhaps also for the MVP, they should take the post season into account. Yamamoto is a big game hunter, while Skenes has never pitched a meaningful game. It should matter.

Watched the new Netflix documentary last night about the collapse of the Expos. Great franchise and amazing fan base. Collapsed in large part because there wasn't sufficient money available from the owners to be competitive. The idea that people are complaining about Dodgers management is absurd. Don't have the money to field a competitive team? Sell the team to someone who does. Professional sports franchises in the US right now are among the most valuable assets in the world. If you can't play in that end of the pool . . . go home. No one has to buy a baseball team. The anger should be directed at 9-8 owners who don't even hide the fact that they aren't trying.

Huh?! It's not up to the owners to try to do anything but make money. It's up to the coaching staff and players to try to win.

I don’t see how the Dodgers are underestimating the Jays. The US media certainly is underestimating them. As are the sports gambling places. Dodger fans are likely underestimating the Jays too. But dont see how you can suggest the Dodgers themselves are underestimating them.

Shohei. The f**king Dodgers get Shohei, and we pay more to get Juan Soto. It's not fair.

Without Shohei Ohtani the Dodgers wouldn't be in the World Series right now. Without Juan Soto, the Mets might be?

What really astounds me watching these games though is just how many times pitchers throw the ball into the dirt or even bounce it before the plate. What's even more astonishing is how often batters swing at those pitches. And these are the best players in the world theoretically....

For all the ceaseless Ohtani talk, the series is tied and the Blue Jays have home field advantage.

Nice to see a moment where Shohei Ohtani shows he’s human. But they don’t come very often.

Or maybe Ohtani was just gassed. He had a big 24 hours -- historic Game 3 at the plate and then he went out and pitched a WS game the next day.

When was the last time someone was walked intentionally 4 times in a row in a World Series game? If I'm Mookie Betts, I'm super offended.

When was the last time someone was walked intentionally 4 times in a row in a World Series game? If I'm Mookie Betts, I'm super offended.
Mookie may have been offended, but he was also 1 for 8 in the game so the strategy made sense.

Very high risk strategy to put a man on base to pitch to a future HOF player in a tie game, but then again Ohtani was in such a zone that you can see the reasoning.
