Guess there will be no more watching F1 for me after this season. The announcement that F1 will leave ESPN in favor of Apple TV for the next five years was obviously driven by money, but I don't see how this won't hurt the momentum F1 has gained in the United States in recent years.

I know $150 a year would not break me, but I am not going to pay for Apple TV just to watch F1.

I hope that IndyCar can attract some of the people unwilling to pay for (yet) another streaming service. I believe all races will be on big FOX again next year, so it will require no streaming or cable. I won't say I'm optimistic though. The series can't stop stepping on it's own n*ts...thanks Mark Miles. That dude must have incriminating photos of everyone.

Opposite POV here,Eddie. We already subscribe to Apple so the F1 announcement is very good news in my house. Quite apart from that I think the move will be great for F1. Apple has multiple spaces to cross-promote the series and plans to do just that.

Live sports are all going to go to streamers and away from legacy media. It is the one thing missing from their services that will retain subscribers. I stayed with Showtime at some points only for the boxing.

I think what might hurt is if ESPN stops giving it the coverage on their Sports News platforms that they have been the last several years, in response to this.

Is access to clips and highlights and generally having less skin in the game, going to create an information black hole for a large part of the American viewing public?

I understand what you are saying. For me, the streaming services that I couldn't do without are FloSports and DirtVision because they heavily broadcast dirt track races from around the country. I like F1, but I am not willing to subscribe to another streaming service to watch their races when there are other forms of racing that I am more passionate about.

I get it that Apple paid F1 what they wanted for broadcast rights, but F1 is reducing the number of Americans with access to their product. That being said, maybe the number of potential viewers did not factor into the equation at all.

FWIW, Darrell Waltrip is not signing TTM anymore. I got a package back today that I sent out months ago, unsigned, with a note that he is retiring and won't do any more TTM signings.

Just stumbled on this thread and love it. All I collect, for the most part, is vintage auto racing, especially anything Indy 500. I just added my 77th Marhoefer Indy card to the collection - a 1962 Marhoefer signed by two-time Indy 500 winner Rodger Ward. I have a complete 1961 set, 16/17 of 1962 and near complete sets of 1963, 1964 and 1965. I also collect the 1911 T36s, 1954 Stark & Wetzels, anything Jim Clark and am always looking for Pre-WW2 Grand Prix/indy 500 Trading and PostCards.

Awesome to have another racing collector on the board. There was another racing thread on the main board with lots of knowledge and information that people used to post in before migrating over to this thread.

Both threads contain lots of great racing card discussion, but this one is where just about all the racing discussion takes place these days.
