Default September 2025 pickup thread

OK, I know. It's still technically August for another eight and a half hours. No matter.

Let's kick off the month with a copy of The Express. I picked this up at the most recent Collector Connection auction.

I got this a long time ago but I don't think I ever shared the image before, so it's new-ish:

No, it doesn't - because we didn't have a July or August pickup thread for postwar either. I guess maybe I'm the only one who noticed that.

Anyhow, between July and August - here is some pickup eye candy:

You weren't the only one who noticed. I considered naming the thread, "2025 Pickups" or something similar.

It's kinda sad! I love N54, but don't do a ton yet with prewar. Maybe as my Cubs collection continues to grow...

John, that's a great Clemente. I am impressed that you are buying centered cards now. Nice pickup!

Fantastic Ryan, Eric.

That card will always hold special meaning for me, as when I was a kid in the early 90's and just desperate for any Ryan card featuring him on the Mets, (even the '72 with the airbrushed California cap was pricey then...) that's the oldest Nolan I could afford even a low grade example of.

The "Royal Crown" above his head is a nice touch.

Haha.

Thanks. I still don't consider myself a centering freak, but will admit that perfectly or close-to-perfect centered vintage cards just pop, and sometimes they jump out at me. Such was the case with that '62 Clemente.

Not terribly impressive, but still happy to pick up this 1973 Topps candy lids at a good price for my Reggie Jackson collection. These can be a little tricky to find.

Looks like a true yellow House variation, but it is not. Tongue has a touch of red which the scanner didn't pick up. Got a great price

Probably the fast delivery time for any card I bought on ebay. Bought on Wednesday and delivered the next day.

No nice sunny day. The stains don't look as bad in hand but are there. Also not as toned as the photo makes it look.

Wow am I slow. Now I need to find a Warren Sphan to go with Johnny.

Default 1952 Topps 1 Cent Wrapper

besides cards, I also collect pre-war and post-war sports and non-sports wrappers and have a pretty sizeable run of most. But did not have this one, very happy with the condition!

That's a great looking 52 Topps wrapper.

Congrats.

I love the Roberto Clemente! Pity he's been so unfairly imprisoned. Are you going to grant him a parole?

I wouldn’t have no, but I no longer have that card. Sold it along with a few other things, and turned it into this longtime want:

Yes, yes, I know, I know, Elston Howard is a Yankee but he's not among those I most depised back in the day when I was a kid.

And this is one of the best looking cards from the 1958 set. But is the barrel of his bat obscured by his right forearm or is there actually something strange about what's presented on the card?

Topps got a little overzealous with the solid backgrounds and airbrushing in '58. There is a Red Wilson card (Tigers?) where they got rid of most of his arms...
