I was watching a video on YouTube the other day that said the modern card market bubble is about to burst. I guess this buyer doesn't believe it.

These modern cards selling for these insane prices, will not see these prices down the line. They just won't. It's today hype.

Kobe autographs are so over-hyped. Yes, I know he was only forty-one when he passed away, but he signed plenty of cards for Panini during his playing days. I see them popping up for sale all the time. They're not rare at all.

I'd rather have the 14 CJ Jackson 2.5 that sold last night in my collection instead.

I believe both of those signatures are secretarial.

I look at the price paid and I think of all the vintage sets that could be purchased.

The thing I don't understand is that the winner could have bought a game used signed jersey from both of these players, something he could hang in his office and enjoy every day (I say he because no woman would do something this silly), and still have over $11 million left over. Maybe he has all these things already and the money meant nothing to him, who knows?
BTW, this is not an indictment of capitalism. If the buyer earned the money fairly he has a right to enjoy it in any manner he sees fit. He can support charities if he sees fit (he may do this too) but it should never be the governments job to make this decision for him.

People have been complaining like this for 4 years. But the modern market now relies on breakers. The amount of product they buy, hype, and churn through is absurd. If you're not on Twitter, X, to hear the complaints, and then watch people continue to buy crappy product, you're in for a treat. Facebook has a forum called Sportscard Nonsense. A lot of those posts are collectors opening boxes to get an auto of a 29 yo journeyman MiLB player who finally debuted. Or getting 3 autos of the same journeyman player from the same box.

As I've stated, if there were no modern collectors today our hobby would go the way of Stamp collecting - dead and buried.

Also, I wonder how many collectors that state they wouldn't buy any modern-day cards are secretly looking for a Cal Raleigh right now. How many that hate modern collecting have never sought out a rookie Ohtani, Trout, Judge, Skenes, Skubal, etc.

I think I enjoy reading more about how someone would spend their 13M rather than reading about someone telling someone else they've never met how they should spend theirs.

Net54 has pretty savvy collectors and intelligent members. The collective knowledge base is impressive. I am glad I joined and enjoy reading the daily posts, just like reading the daily paper and getting caught up with the news.

The nice thing about reading threads that you don't agree with, or upset you, is one can always simply not read the thread.

This one reminds me of "The Days or Our Lives" tv show. I'll continue reading it daily until it spirals too far down the rabbit hole.
