I always love seeing this card as it immediately takes my brain to this photo- one of the best 1910 Paul Thompson portrait photos used for the t205 set in terms of image quality. The card doesn’t do it justice even when the registration is spot on such as your beautiful example. His extreme features just aren’t quite captured in the card. It is not the most valuable Type 1 photo in terms of dollars in my collection but it provides great joy. Yes.. I know how weird that sounds

If anybody is looking at all your beautiful cards and thinking how sad it is that they have almost none, I have eggsactly one left. Medical bills, but I couldn't part with this one. It's not nice but it's mine.

That Paul Thompson photo doesn't hide a thing...it is pretty impressive. I think the T205 artist(s) did a great job with capturing the player's essence, but they also were not afraid to smooth out facial features. The original photoshoppers.

It's great that you were able to keep the card that meant the most to you, and its qualifies for eggsactly 7 on the EGGS list. Stay healthy and enjoy the Joss.

Very nice Thompson photo. Thanks for posting it. B&W photography is becoming a lost art.

Also, nice Joss. I don't have one in my collection, yet. It is a long work in progress.

Brian, I looked at my T205 box, placed the Schulte in there, and thought about counting the points. I will get to it soon. I should have some extra time over the holidays. Rob

I am now at 142 with lots of 1 pointers and dupes as I'm working on back runs and HLC's and other 1 pointer stuff. Here's my latest addition, no new points to add with this one. My brother, who quit collecting 35 years ago, would call this "mint" because that's what cards like this were called back then.

That Titus would be Nr-Mt/Mint to me (that's my old-timey designation for it...I guess I was a strict grader for that long gone time frame). Welcome to the club, and even you don't get bonus EGGS points for dupes or different backs, they still are awfully cool.

I was just thinking about EGGS this morning, perhaps because it was what was on the breakfast plate. Nice tougher pickups, and your respective multiple baker's dozen numbers will be updated.

Hi - just stumbled upon this thread, thankfully. T205 is my favorite set.

I’d like to throw my name into the mix. I have 202 total T205s for an EGGS score of 302.

Welcome aboard Mark2391...your EGGS number has been installed in its lofty position, and John I updated your number by 6 to the total of 55, let me know if different.

It has been over 5 months since the last post...surely some updates or new folks that want to cross the borders into this golden thread.

Below is a visual reminder of what a T205 looks like. Gaze steadily at it for a few minutes, and then close your eyes. Perhaps the inside of your eyelids will have started collecting a new set of prewar cards (or you will just have some dude named Harry that can't seem to stop staring into your brain).

Welcome eventually aboard! As John mentioned, the first two posts are the whole T205 chicken coop...the only sheets I ever spread are on my bed.

Thanks, updated. I was thinking about bumping this thread, but now I don't have to.

I noticed that your previous EGGS number was from exactly one year ago (minus a day)...welcome back, Mid-June T205 collector!

You have been added to the roll call at EGGSactly the 144 level. And nice Dahlen...always nice to add a potential future HOF to the lineup, especially one that is a little tougher to come by.

Nice T205 photo. Looks like Dahlen slid in between noted ne'er do wells Cicotte and Chase. And thanks for bumping this thread...that's one less thing to accomplish on my to (ne'er) do (well) list.

Exactly one year from your previous posting...I only had to change the year (and your new EGGS number) on the leaderboard.

I've been collecting this set basically since 2020 (with the exception of a Cobb SGC 4 that I had the vision and/or luck to pick up in high school in 1999 or so), finally getting around to calculating my total here. I have 131 cards at the moment, for a total score of 205 (just sold my Addie Joss too, because I would like to pick up a nicer one). Don't think I will ever make it to 400 because I don't plan on shelling out for a No Stats Hoblitzell, but I do like higher condition cards when I can find them. This is my latest acquisition:

I went a different (and slightly cheaper) route to collecting the T205's. I'm just trying to collect all of the players in the set that are currently in the HOF. I've managed to narrowed the list to 8 for completion. I still need Home Run Baker, Jimmy Collins, Hugh Duffy, Walter Johnson, Addie Joss, R.W. Marquard, John McGraw, and Cy Young. So if anyone has any extra's of these in collector grade, I might be interested. Mine are all graded and are mostly in the 2-4 range with a few lower and couple higher. I bought a large group from Leon when he was selling off some of his collection a few years ago (thanks Leon). These sure were a lot cheaper when I started!

Welcome aboard GasGangman. I will have to get more input from you to establish your Kraken (strictly HOF) number. Are you just going after one card for each Hall of Famer? Or have you gotten the various variations as well?

I can tell you with the 8 Hall of Famers you are missing, their EGGS total value is 31. So let us know what you end EGGS goal is, and we can cheer you on from the coop.

Brian,
I haven't been going for any of the variations. I've just tried to collect one of each player in the HOF and picked up whichever back combination was available at a price I could afford. I currently have:

If you mean the annual visit to the proctologist, I could not agree more.

Brian,
I haven't been going for any of the variations. I've just tried to collect one of each player in the HOF and picked up whichever back combination was available at a price I could afford.

HOF HAVE 16
HOF NEED 9

Based on the list you posted, I count that you have 17 different HOF cards. I removed all the cards you listed as 'Need' in the below revised list that only shows what you have. Is it correct?

CHAS. BENDER Piedmont 25
ROGER P. BRESNAHAN CLOSED MOUTH - H.O.F. Piedmont25
ROGER P. BRESNAHAN OPEN MOUTH - H.O.F.
MORDECAI BROWN Hassan 649
FRANK J. CHANCE Honest LC
FRED C. CLARKE Sovereign
TY COBB H.O.F. Piedmont 25
EDDIE COLLINS CLOSED MOUTH - WHITE ELEPHANT Piedmont 25
EDDIE COLLINS CLOSED MOUTH-YELLOW ELEPHANT
EDDIE COLLINS OPEN MOUTH
JOHN J. EVERS SC Red
CLARK GRIFFITH Polar Bear
MILLER J. HUGGINS Polar Bear
HUGHIE JENNINGS Polar Bear
CHRISTY MATHEWSON 1 LOSS VARIATION
CHRISTY MATHEWSON SC Red
TRIS SPEAKER Piedmont 25
JOE TINKER Hassan 649
BOBBY WALLACE 2 LINES 1910
BOBBY WALLACE WITH CAP Piedmont 25
ED WALSH WHITE DIAMOND - SHORT PRINT 2
ZACK WHEAT H.O.F. Polar Bear

If the above list is indeed an accurate list of what you have, your Kraken number would be 76* (the asterisk indicating the Eddie Collins Yellow Elephant variation)

Do you have the Mathewson 1 Loss variation? It is an incredibly tough card to come by. That card alone is 13 of the 76 points.

Confirm what you indeed have and I will add your Kraken number to the list.

Default No regrets!?

Ugh - I used to own two of the Cycle (1-Loss) Matty's. Both PSA 2.5's. Sold in 2017-18 before the boom. Sold everything before the boom. haha

Brian,
I knew my list would probably be misunderstood. I listed the backs next to the ones I actually own. So what I have are:

3. MORDECAI BROWN Hassan 649
4. FRANK J. CHANCE Honest LC
5. FRED C. CLARKE Sovereign
6. TY COBB H.O.F. Piedmont 25
7. EDDIE COLLINS CLOSED MOUTH - WHITE ELEPHANT Piedmont 25
8. JOHN J. EVERS SC Red
9. CLARK GRIFFITH Polar Bear
10. MILLER J. HUGGINS Polar Bear
11. HUGHIE JENNINGS Polar Bear
12. CHRISTY MATHEWSON SC Red
13. TRIS SPEAKER Piedmont 25
14. JOE TINKER Hassan 649
15. BOBBY WALLACE WITH CAP Piedmont 25
16. ZACK WHEAT H.O.F. Polar Bear

I have always figured that I am Mister-Understood, the male counterpart of Mis-Understood. Thanks for the clarification, and you shall now be known by your current EGGS identification number of 48.
