On April 5th, I submittd 17 cards (14 pre-War & 3 post-War) to SGC at the Chantilly Show. These are NOT run-of-the-mill cards. The SGC web site showed the cards were graded on May 13th and in "Post-Grading Processing." On June 4th, I emailed the SGC rep I have communicated with in the past and asked him to kindly find out if there is something specific that is delaying my order. On June 6th, I received an email from SGC notifying me that my order is being shipped and the FedEX tracking number. Today, Sunday June 8th, I received my cards.
I am pleased with the grades overall, as most were what I expected or better. I am even more pleased that the three W514 cards of Sam Rice with printed (I believe) ad backs - Barker Bread, Hendlers Ice Cream, and Mother's Bread/Besta Cake - that I submitted not only received numerical grades, but the advertisers are noted on the labels. I was concerned they wouldn't be, because SGC no longer will note the names of advertisers that are stamped on the card backs (e.g., Henry A. Johnson Wholesale Confectioner and Wool's Bread). However, all is not roses. In their 3rd go at correctly grading and labeling my 1955 Topps Hocus Focus card #3 of Dick Groat, SGC got it wrong again. The incorrect results thus far are: - 1st go: This card was erroneously labeled as a 1956 Hocus Focus card #1 of Groat. BTW, my sub did also include a 1956 Hocus Focus card #1 of Groat. SGC put identical labels on both the 1955 and 1956 cards! - 2nd go: The SGC label now shows the correct year and correct card number. But, the new label says "Authentic - Minimum Size Not Met." This card measures exactly the size it should, as stated in the Standard Catalog of Vintage Baseball Cards. SGC will not tell me what reference they used to determine that minimum size was not met. - 3rd go: This 1955 card #3 of Groat is graded a 2, which pleases me. However, the label again erroneously identifies this card as a 1956 Hocus Focus card #1 of Groat. Sigh! I'll give this card to SGC at the upcoming Chantilly Show for a 4th go at getting it right!
