Bud had reason to not like airplanes. When he was in Canada, a flight he and some teammates was scheduled to take flew into the side of a mountain. By chance, Bud had been able to reschedule to an earlier flight. One of those teammates overslept, took the original flight, and was killed.
About 6 years ago, I visited Bud a half dozen times to get some Met Stadium seats signed. He was a very nice guy.
