I am also currently in the process of trying to complete the set.

I have noticed the exact same thing as you. Some just seem impossible to find.

I have no idea how they were printed. 72 different transfers would lead to many possible sheet sizes if they were printed in sheets.

I had the same issue a few years ago with the 1966 rub offs. There was a group of 20 that were much more difficult to find.

Like the rub-offs the transfers were printed in long strips - several small sections can be found on eBay - here's a longish one...you would think they'd run through all 72 and start over so the same would be printed of each.

Default 1965 topps transfers

I admit I l know very little about these. However, Beckett intimates that these were printed in series of 24. Is that possible? And they were placed in different series waxpacks?? If true, then perhaps the later series were printed in smaller quantities.

This 1965 Box Topper infers it wasn’t in the 1st series….with the “ now in “
Also Topps original refered to them as “ press on”

It could just mean that they're new in 1965, not that they are not in the first series.

20-25 years ago I bought a 1965 Topps Transfer of Larry Jackson on eBay that had an insane shipping price of something like $12 because I was tired of looking for it and just figured it in as part of the price which I gladly paid.

This was a box topper in '65? Do you know if it came inside the case or whether there was one in each wax box? Do you have this item in-hand? If so can you let me know the dimensions?

I am researching the 1965 set for my site and this is a great little bit of information?

Also, as to series - I have been able to determine that the embossed inserts were included in series 1, series 3 contained no inserts, and the transfers were in series 6. As to whether and what inserts may have been included in series 2, 4,5 or 7 I still have no information.

That’s true about it the transfers could be in all the series. I always read it as it was something new introduced in a later series.

I bought a 1965 empty box at the national show from a guy who was selling baseball World Series dvd. He didn’t have any baseball cards , just the dvds and this 1965 . The box itself is in great shape! He had the 65 box and said it was his as a kid. It had the box topper in the box. I was shocked and surprised because I never seen anything like it. The box topper is half the dimensions of the 1965 box. It is folded in the middle and would fit nicely inside the box on top of the packs. I don’t have it in hand but my guess is would be 3 1/2 x 15 inches.

Perhaps the transfers that were released in series 6 are the "scarce" ones.

There are a number of miscuts available, so perhaps someone could determine the strip print pattern for these.
