I'm always a little confused on figuring out if photos are Type 1,2 or 3. I know the 3 photos below aren't wirephotos, but could use some help on seeing if these are Type 1 or not. Thanks in advance.

1st two are Type III's.
Telephoto is kind of an off-shoot of the Wire Photo process, but has more of a dot matrix pattern, then the wavy lines you see under magnification for a "Wire" photo. 3rd one hard to tell without having it in hand. Suspect it's also a "Telephoto", but not sure from the scan.

Thanks Dave, that is extremely helpful. I got my loupe out and can see exactly what you described in both of the first 2 photos. The third one doesn't have them, however the paper stock seems heavier than other type I photos I have from the mid-60's, and I wonder if it is Type II.

"A Portrait of Baseball Photography" lists that stamp as active between 1970 and 1980, so at best that makes it a Type II. If somebody decides the image was produced using a contact negative, or a well cropped picture of a picture, it would make it a Type IV I believe. The system is a bit arbitrary sometimes, so it could be either one and it might be hard to tell. I would just call it a later generation press or wire photo and be done with it. A great image of Koufax, used for press purposes. Not a Type 1, but still a very nice piece with pretty good clarity.
