Just picked up the guy on the right. My second most expensive bobbin' head ever. Why? It's kind of like the ordinary color base (center) but with a green base with decal, black embossing on the chest, a less yellow face and also no stripes on the sleeves. The 00 on the back is unpainted. The guy on left is also unusual. Also, green painted base (like the white square base) with the color base (orange) head but the body matches the green round base series (the ball and glove are different than the other two). My new guy makes 43 total 1960's SF Giants nodders, between the color base, white base, green base, Willie Mays and mini's.
As I said, the new guy wasn't cheap. I had seen a picture of this one (quite possibly the same doll) maybe 15 years ago. It hadn't arrived in 8 days and I asked the seller if it had shipped. He said "yes and it shows delivered 3/24 in Las Vegas." Ruh roh! I haven't lived in Vegas since 2010. Thank goodness I had the phone number of the woman who bought our Vegas house and thank goodness she still lives there. I got a hold of her and she shipped it to me. Note to self: keep address current for auction houses.

Recent pickup from Dick Hoblitzells estate. A postcard he received from Orval Overall (signed "O"). From left, Dode Paskert, Joe Stanley, Rip Hageeman, Billy Campbell Jack Pfeister and Dick Hoblitzell. Picture almost certinaly dates from Aug 17, 1909. The players are wearing black banns on their jerseys for \ Harry Pulliam.

Nothing particularly special about this 1919 Cornell-Colgate football photo - but the brutal grimaces on all the faces really drew me in. They look like they have all been thru battle. I don’t think anyone was pulled out of this game for concussion protocol.

I am trying to get one autograph of each japanese HOFer and also have a few plaques. Does anyone know addresses to send players to in Japan? Would love to get more.

Nice pickups! That Mack was mine. Hope you enjoy it. If you are looking for some tougher Japanese HOF auto's, drop me a line. I have a bunch of 1931 Tour of Japan signed photos which have a mix of US and Japanese players including some of the earliest and in my understanding, toughest HOFers. (I also have a collection of 20+ 1934 US Tour of Japan photos of just American players, similar to the Mack) |

I just picked up this itinerary from LOTG. It's basically 36 pages of "leave here; arrive here; play here." It makes a nice companion piece to my shoulder bag which probably belonged to Bobby Bonds, since it came from the same source as Bobby's suitcase. LOTG had some great Tour of Japan stuff, from manager Clyde King. It all went cheap, IMO. I would have liked to bid on the watch, cufflinks, kimono and pillow but I let a fellow Giants collector go after those....a fellow Giants collector who forgot to bid.

Great pickups Rob. They definitely belong in your collection.
Jonathan, that Banks Hartland looks likes it's pristine. Very nice.

I am pleased to have picked up these two 1924 photos, one of Sam Rice and one of Walter Johnson, in the RMY auction that just ended. Each of these photos matches one of their more obscure baseball cards. The Rice
photo matches his 1926 Sports Co. of America card (shown below). The 1924 photo of WaJo matches his 1921-22 or 1922 (depending on the hobby reference) Schapira Bros. Big Show Candy card (shown below), and this puzzles me. Assuming the September 17, 1924, date in the caption on the back of this photo is correct, this suggests to me that the issue date for this card set has to be later than that shown in hobby references. Might there be another explanation that I haven't thought of?

Thanks, Chris. If I hadn't discovered, a couple of days before the auction ended, that the Rice photo matched one of his more obscure baseball cards, I doubt that I would have bid as much for it as I did. While I'm striving for a master set of Rice's cards, I don't feel the need to obtain every Rice photo that becomes available.

I should have this in hand next week. A 1978 Hostess Store Display. It measures 17" wide x 19" high.
I have no idea where or how I'm going to display it because it's pretty big. But I've been looking for one of these for a few years so I couldn't pass it up.

Awesome pickups, Mike, Dean and Gary!
All great in different ways. Gary, I sure hope the seller of your Hostess Display piece is a super skilled packager. That seems like it would be a nightmare to protect and transport safely (all the way to the UK, no less) ![]() Great pickup, regardless... I bet that less than one out of a thousand of those survived.

Thanks all. I saw one of these listed on Ebay back in Dec 2021. I didn't get it then but I've been looking ever since. 3 1/2 years later, my persistence has paid off.
Yep, It folds flat. So fingers cross, it'll arrive safely.

This is a cool piece. Love it when sport and celebrity collide. Not sure why, but when I read this was Charlie Sheen’s hat, I immediately thought of the Seinfeld episode where George buys “John Voight’s” car.
