Ovechkin is a Goal Scoring Machine but at the end of the day, Gretzky has more assists then Ovechkin has points, and it will likely still be that way when Ovechkin retires.
I think Ovechkin occupies a stratus somewhere between Bobby and Brett Hull. Bobby Hull would probably have had remarkably similar offensive stats to Ovechkin (in an era of goons and mostly legal boarding), if he hadn't taken that 7 year sabbatical in the WHA. Sidney Crosby probably has a better chance then Ovechkin at this point, to at least eclipse Gretzky's assist total in the total points category. Jagr came oh...so...close.
