The white band seems more that a brief recurring print defect since it can be found on so many of his 54 cards. It been discussed in other threads here and in pre war

Thanks for sharing! I never noticed that my 54 Mays copy does in fact have the white band. I've been wanting to upgrade my PSA 1.5 so when I do so I'll look for one without the white band.

I got back into collecting in late 2010 and started building sets at the start of 2011. The second set I completed that year was 1974 Topps. Not long after I decided to work on the master set, but card 599 (San Diego small print) always eluded me. To be perfectly candid, I rarely gave it much thought and when I did I found that the card was selling for $30 or more. It wasn't that I couldn't afford it, but I was just loath to spend that kind of coin on a common card*

Fast forward 14 years and a good friend just sent me that card, so now I have completed the master set.

* It seems rather quaint now that I would be so reluctant to spend $30 on a common since I am trying to build 1967 Topps and am mostly down to high numbers (I'm looking at you, Mike Shannon)

I only have 9 more common cards to finish a high grade 1971 baseball. I needed something to make me crazy. My favorite set is my 1967 baseball set. I remember the nuns in catholic school confiscating them from me in 3rd grade.

Dave---depending on which cards and how many they took it might make those nuns guilty of felony theft
