Default March 27th Auction: T205 & T206 Near Set Break and More

(paid advertisement)

Hello All,

A quick introduction, my name is Greg Capps and I am the Coin, Currency, and Sports Memorabilia Specialist at Brunk Auctions in scenic Asheville, North Carolina. I came up collecting in the 1980s with Don Mattingly and Dale Murphy being among my favorites to watch. Like many of us, I worked at a card shop in the 1990s "junk wax" era, when shops could be found on almost every corner of any well-populated town.

Fast forward to today and I am bringing a nice "Olde Tyme" collection of tobacco and gum cards, ranging from 1910 to 1975. These were collected prior to 1983 and until recently had not seen the inside of a grading slab. Many others in the collection remain raw to this day - giving the new owner the choice of whether to 'send off' or to enjoy the cards in their natural state.

The highlight would have to be the MAGIE spelling error (Lot 24)

but other high grade tobacco cards include multiple Cobbs (Lots 36-39)

cobbforad.jpg

and scarce T205 'DRUM' backs (Lot 19)

drumbackforad.jpg

a visually appealing 1952 Topps Pafko (Lot 170)

pafkoforad.jpg

and multiple Babe Ruth signed baseballs, JSA authenticated (Lots 9 & 17)

I'm sure you will find something to scratch that collecting itch of yours!

Good luck, Greg and team. That is a nice sampling of some rare and beautiful cards. Thanks for allowing Net54baseball to spread the word too!

Wow, the auction ending lot by lot began this morning and is just wrapping up, and prices seem very strong! This ending format (on a Thursday late morning / early afternoon) is *soooo* much better than trying to stay up late on a Saturday or Sunday evening.

Thoughts?

I had a bid in on the Drum T205s....I wasn't close to the top in bidders....they went for around 5k each, all in....Higher grade but those are some nice valuations. Congrats to the AH and the consignor (and the winner).....

I was watching the live auction as I was following a few cards. One bidder seemed to be winning the vast majority of the lots I saw close. Prices didn't seem insane to me though.

Yeah very strong prices for T205 drums. Granted they never come up.

With only seconds to decide after you get outbid, it's pretty exciting. None of these 15 minute windows, you need to react instantly.

Me too. I had a few watched that I may have been a bidder based on final price, but that is ok. They saved me some $!

Was a good auction to watch.

Enjoyed the auction format, was the underbidder on one of the Old Mill lots (if the winner of Lot 74 is willing to deal the George Browne please reach out) and then had a glitch during lot 90 trying to get my final bid in! 0 for 2 but I liked the format.
