Hi everyone. Saw this and thought I'd pass along.

Imagine running into those at a garage sale? How big of heart attack would you have? Um Sir what are you asking for the binder of tobacco cards?

Sweet cards. I usually find 1988 Topps or beat up 1970's commons when
I go flea markets or garage sales. lol

The 4 Cobbs look really nice. Wonder where Heritage will go to have them graded? I have a hunch SGC will get the order.

Realistically, there can't possibly be many of these finds left. For decades now, even people who don't follow card collecting one thousandth as much as those here, would have brought an old shoebox full of cards to an auction house or card store. It has been known for some time that old cards can be very valuable, and local news channels have reported on these finds for years. So there is likely on a very small number of card treasures that haven't been uncovered yet. That said, any such find must be exciting, even life-changing, for those involved.

Not so much value, but I was given a bunch of items from a person recently that preserved his baseball story that I wanted to keep alive after his passing. Much of it was 70+ years old. I think items will still be found, and uncovered in different ways.
I do know he had some very expensive or wanted items from collectors his family is still in possession of. Most from teammates of his or friends from the majors. He played in the 40s and 50s. Last edited by Vintage Vern; 03-02-2025 at 06:19 AM. |

The cards are amazing! That said, can anyone say a single card in that find will grade an 8? I say this not to take anything away from the spectacular nature of this find. Rather, I mention it to pose the question where all those 8s and 9s we constantly see turning up in auctions and card shows came from, except other than the cutting board of a card doctor?

At least his grandchildren had the awareness not to offer these up at a garage sale. Brian Last edited by brianp-beme; 03-02-2025 at 09:33 AM. |

There is a bunch of stuff still out there. I purchased this Willie Mays game used bat a couple of years ago from the friend of a former Pirates batboy. It was cracked in a game at Forbes Field.

I think I'd assume they were reprints since the colors are so bold. It would take a bit to believe what I was seeing was real.

Is it just me, or do so many of those cards look like they have been made smaller? Check all the photos of the cards in the link. The group has so few cards that have larger borders, and a large chunk look on the small side. If this is indeed an original collection, what happened to cards that look fuller like this?

Just based on how nice the colors are I'd say they are all real. But damn those borders look Pearl White for their age.

That was posted on reddit by one of the Heritage guys...Jason. He posts pretty regularly on reddit. I'd assume if he is posting it, it is legit.

These cards are "normal" sized for t206. kinda scary to imagine how many altered t206's are entombed.
