Not sure I would call it fenced in.
But definitely taking a hard look at priorities and trying to exercise more discipline in my approach to allocating my finite resources.

I've been a "what's left on the list?" collector since a bit over a decade ago and I'm done with any "what can I upgrade?" concerns unless a crazy deal rolls up. Even lower graded stuff I'm happy to call a done deal because I'm personally happy with the card.
That's made the late-2019-current price bumps mostly harmless, but I have decided to make some "well, not getting any cheaper any time soon" purchases. The ability during the "COVID bump era" to get rid of a slew of graded junk wax that's been sitting around since the early 2000s practically not worth trying to sell...well, that helped a lot. I also had some other collected-to-sell-later stuff finally cash in, especially Jim Kaat and Billy Wagner RCs most recently. In a way good and bad met in the middle, but overall I'm still not comfortable spending $100-$150 on cards that I felt were too much at $50-75 less than a decade ago. |
