Speaking of Ichiro and Pujols, I don't know if it was a coincidence, but I remember seeing a lot more action at card shows and interest in the hobby in general during 2001 after a lull in the mid-late 90s.
McGwire and Sosa woke the fans up, Ichiro and Pujols brought people back into cardboard. That was kinda fun, but it's anecdotal on my end and might be some localized rose colored memory.
