Default Oddball Baltimore Orioles Documents

Found these in some stuff I had put away for a rainy day to sort through. Looking for feedback.

Paper banquet program to say farewell to Doug DeCinces. No date included but assume it is around 1981 or 1982. Never seen before. He played last game I 1981 but traded January 1982. Would they send him off like this or was it later when he retired?

Next is a 1979 Unsung hero awards banquet at Hunt Valley Inn in Baltimore. Chuck Thompson MC’ed and Rich Dauer was guest speaker. Ice pic, bio and signature of Dauer.

Finally, a 1973 5th World Series folder but looks like what would have been a program or score card. It has no real content to it. Is it a prototype in anticipation of the Orioles beating the Athletics?

Charlie,

As a program guy, I absolutely love the 1973 World Series folder. If that was going to be the 1973 World Series program, it's the best O's cover I've seen. I sure wish they had won and printed programs. Very cool items.

DeCinces was traded to the Angels in late January of '82, so I suspect this banquet program is from shortly thereafter, as he would be on his way to Spring Training.....When he retired from baseball in the late 1980's guys like Bert Jones and Joe Washington (who played for the Colts) were long gone..

I suppose since it was hastily put together, Brooks was unable to attend...Certainly a neat item that I've never seen.

Thanks, Bill. Sounds about right. Seems like when you are traded you would go without a farewell. It was part of some items I got from Ted Patterson collection.

I'm sure most of you have heard by now about the passing of LHP Brian Matusz , who was the Orioles first round pick back in 2008 (4th overall) and pitched with them from 2010-2016......

In 2011 my daughter won a contest and was invited to watch BP from the field...She was lucky enough to have her picture taken with Brian.....

RIP

Default Brian Matusz

I was shocked to learn of the passing of former Orioles pitcher Brian Matusz. Matusz was only 37 years old and spent almost all of his 8 season career with the Orioles. He had his best success, when he was converted from a starter into a reliever, the last few years of his time with Baltimore.

Brian was always one of the nicest guys to speak with during spring training and really seemed to enjoy interacting with the fans.

Here are a few Brian Matusz team issued items. (His first postcard in 2009, his last postcard in 2015, and an 8x10 team issued photo)

I have Brooks Robinson's 1962 Canadian Post Cereal card, his 1962 Shirriff Baseball coin, his 1963 Salada Baseball coin, his 1964 Topps All Star Baseball coin, his 1965 Old London Baseball coin and his 1971 Topps Baseball coin but I have only this single Brooks Robinson Topps card:
