But yeah, it's all good. The whole point was as a joke response to BalticFox when he claimed he would leave if this was a social media site. I just posted a link to the definitions with a winky face emoji. Last edited by OhioLawyerF5; 01-03-2025 at 07:29 PM. |

Whether anyone here likes it or not, OhioLawyer is correct in saying online forums like this one are considered "social media". You can debate it, but it is a fact that online forums fall under the umbrella of social media.
I don't necessarily like it either, as I also am not a fan of social media like FB, IG, or TikTok, but I participate on a lot of forums and therefore I socialize on social media. Everyone that posts here is doing the same. Related to the original topic -- thanks for the heads up, Leon, I didn't realize it was such a pain and will be sure to resize all images in the future when posting from an external image hosting site. |

Of course, the word "literally" was misused so much the dictionary now includes "figuratively" as an alternate definition. So maybe one day you might be right, and your personal definition might become accepted.

From "generative AI."
While both involve online interactions, "social media" refers to a broader range of platforms where users share content, connect with others based on personal relationships, and often have a wider range of features like posting updates, photos, and videos, whereas an "online forum" is a dedicated space for focused discussions on specific topics, usually with a thread-based structure where users post messages to engage in deeper conversations around a particular subject matter; essentially, social media is about connecting with people, while forums are about discussing ideas in depth within a niche area. Key Differences: Focus: Social media prioritizes personal connections and sharing updates across a network, while online forums prioritize in-depth discussions around a specific topic or interest area. Content Type: Social media often features a mix of short text updates, images, videos, and links, while forums primarily consist of text-based posts within threads focused on a specific topic. Community Structure: Social media platforms often have a "follower" system where users see content from people they follow, while forums typically have a more open discussion where anyone can participate on a given topic. Examples: Social Media: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok Online Forums: Reddit (for specific subreddits), specialized forums for tech communities, gaming forums
