IMO Greg Morris is the industry standard for raw vintage commons. The self-grading he and his team do is pretty consistent and fair. Because of that and his reputation, he's typically going to get top dollar on average, but he does such volume that you're going to be able to find good deals from him. But you can also use his sales as a benchmark for others.

Take a 1954 Topps #43 Dick Groat as an example. (Completely random, just saw it as a card I recently sold.) I see the following sales in EX-EXMINT from Greg Morris in the last three months:

$8.50
$26.00
$10.50
$11.50

Take out the highest and lowest, and you're looking at a card worth about $11.00 in truly EX-EXMINT condition. That's what I'd be willing to pay on a sale by Greg Morris. Maybe 75-80% from someone else without the same reputation.

That's one method I've used that I feel pretty good about. Hope it helps!

Brad
