B. Earl Clark. Outfielder with the Boston Braves 1927-1933. 240 hits and 4 home runs in 8 MLB seasons. In 1929 he posted a .346 OBP with 43 runs scored in 303 plate appearances. He finished his career with the St. Louis Browns in 1934.
I only (at least mostly) collect pre-war cards featuring Washington Senators. But I have hung on to this exception. Earl Clark never played for the Washington Senators, although he played 8 seasons in MLB. But he was born in Washington and began his involvement with MLB as a batboy for the Senators. On top of that, his 1933 Goudey card features him playing for the Albany -- wait for it -- Senators. That's good enough for me. He also, apparently, was a fine soccer player, but I don't hold that against him. |
