Looks a lot better than having old yellow tape on there.

As a purist I might take the old tape over the partially washed out, and altered, tape. I wonder if it would have gotten AUT if the tape hadn't been unsuccessfully removed?

You can easily remove tape without ruining a card. Also, PSA and SGC both allow tape removal. Also, despite what Peter and Jeffrey would like you to believe, you will not go to prison for removing tape from a baseball card. I promise you.

No you can't, Frosty. The sticky side has chemicals on it and when it's stuck to a card for decades then it ends up getting absorbed into the deeper layers of the paper. There is no way to remove it without ruining the card.
What do you mean ?? Quote:

![]() If it were me, I'd have maybe tried to get the tape off with water and then left the rest of the card alone.

I have an Aaron RC I was given for Christmas as a teenager in the late 1980s from my parents. It has some ugly tape on it. Since I will keep it for life (unless destitute) and don't grade cards, I would much rather it look like the OP card than how it currently does. Just my opinion.

Soaked some 52 Topps once, tape fell right off after a day or so. Got some good grades from PSA.
Tried w/ 51 Bowman, and the tape never did come off , so who knows.

Did you try soaking it in lawyer tears? I hear that works wonders.

What about tape that has turned brown and that coloration has leaked into the cardboard? While the tape may be removed, what about the resulting staining? I've heard conflicting things. The same longtime card "fixer" I'm thinking of publicly said that he could and could not restore such an issue at different times.
