Very nice jersey. You're correct about the tagging. I'm not sure if you can verify for sure, but the jersey might have also been worn by Jackie Brandt. He wore #7 in 1960, before changing to #25. Jerry Adair did wear #7 in 1960, but only played a few games that year. The card is from the 1961 Topps set. It's nice when jerseys have the name on back. Years ago, I picked up an example from the 1961 season. My best guess is that it was worn by John Papa or Jim Lehew. Neither player is an Orioles household name, but glad to have an example for my collection. Attachment 643275 Attachment 643277 |

Mark, you can always sell your 401K or car for a Brooks flannel. Ha.
Nice jersey, Alan. Agree with ya on the 1960 jersey. I think my document from Auction House or in conversation suggested Adair. Gotcha on the 1961 Topps Card. Thought to share that one to show the similarity with the jersey and he did not appear on a 1960 card. The jerseys did evolve and change routinely in the early 1960s. I painfully put the 1960 and 1961 Topps Sets together so very familiar. |

Day 346 – 11 December 2024
Today I am showing you a few more game used items. Today, I will feature Brooks Robinson items. First, I have two bats that belonged to Brooks Robinson, which are authenticated. The darker of the two bats is a Game Used 1977 Hillerich & Bradsby Model S44. This bat shows some use but it is not cracked. The other bat is from 1965-1968. This bat is also a Hillerich & Bradsby Model but a MC44. This bat has a lot of use. It is cracked. It has #5 on the knob. It is signed. The next item is a game worn hat by Brooks circa 1976. My final game used item is from 1977. The jersey was worn in 1977 at home. It is tagged Set 1, 1977. I am showing the back and front. It is a size 42. The jersey is signed. |

What is printed underneath Brooks' facsimile signature on the 1960's bat? Great collection of items! |

Bill, funny you ask. I have a bat from the what I think is the 1960s with Brooks Robinson on it and John’s Hopkins. Post #311 / 11 Dec 24 is wrong. The bat I showed was used by their college team. I mistakenly showed that one. I should have shown the Brooks games used bat as described. Pics of the Johns Hopkins and actual Brooksie game used bat below.

Day 349 – 14 December 2024
I recently found a few 1960s-1970s Bluefield Orioles Program/Scorecards. I do not really collect minor league programs unless related to Cal, Eddie or Brooks but had to have these given their condition and the artwork on the cover. They are all scored. The years include 1961, 1962, 1963, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1975 (Murray), 1976, 1977, and 1978 (Ripken…spelled Ripkin). They are all in great shape. Bluefield was affiliated with the Orioles from 1958-2010. They were the oldest continuous affiliated team with the same major league club. In September 2010, they began an affiliation with the Blue Jays. They were part of the Appalachian League willing championships in 1962, 63, 67, 70, 71, 82, 92, 96, 97, and 01. |

Here's the first and last years Bluefield programs while they were Orioles affiliates. 1958 Bluefield Orioles - Copy.jpg 2010 Bluefield Orioles.jpg FYI - Minor leagues teams would often reuse left over stuff from the previous season to help save money, especially lower level clubs. Here's a 1974 Bluefield program reused in 1975 with a sticker added to the cover. 1974 Bluefield Orioles - Copy.jpg 1975 Bluefield Orioles #2 - Copy.jpg When Cal Ripken Jr was in Bluefield, they actually had a color and B&W program. Maybe Bill knows the story behind it. I'm sure it wasn't the fact that someone saw a HOF career in Ripken's future. Probably ran out of one and switched to the other. I'm not sure which came first. Here's the B&W version. 1978 Bluefield Orioles #2 - Copy.jpg |

Bill, thanks for sharing the Program. I dabble in the Programs but not like Alan and assume you. I like finding unique ones. Can’t seem to find a few for Brooks I need from the Missions and a couple from Vancouver. The bat mistake…picked the Hopkins bat up a couple years ago. Was never sure about the year but could not PSA up. In great shape. Would be better if from my school or daughters but was a patient at Hopkins as a small boy so there you go. Funny I made that mistake. Old age I guess. Yours is really cool. Thanks for sharing.
