I went back and watched the 3 undercard fights that were available on replay.

#1. Goyat vs. Nunes - The 1st 6 round fight between the Indian "Influencer" and the Brazilian "Influencer", was about what you would expect from a bottom of the card bout. Goyat really outclassed Nunes, but it was essentially an amateur style slap fight. Time killer.

#2. Barrios vs. Ramos for the WBC Welterweight Title was definitely the bout of the night IMO. This should have gotten more post-fight talk then any of the bouts. 2 pretty evenly matched, skilled but not quite elite guys going toe to toe for most of the bout.

Ramos the big underdog, looking over-matched in the beginning, while making some pretty high level adjustments as the fight wore on.

Barrios, the obviously more athletically gifted, bigger, taller fighter in the ring, imposing his will early on, but being outsmarted and making more tactical mistakes as the fight wore on. Still, he did not completely disintegrate due to his excellent conditioning, and held his own long enough to hang on in the end.

I thought the Draw decision was fitting. Felt bad for Ramos, but Barrios socked away a lot of early rounds, and in the end, I think they both made themselves some money for a rematch, regardless of who ended up walking away with the belt.

#3 Amanda Serrano vs. Katie Taylor - I'll admit, I'm conflicted on this one. I certainly wanted Serrano to win this fight, but I don't think it was quite the "robbery" everybody thought it was.

I've watched enough fights to get the feeling when the Compubox is full of shit, and this is one of those fights. Somebody was just punching buttons like a monkey during this bout, to record all those punches and connects.

Compubox is certainly not the whole story on the course of an entire fight scored by rounds. This was not an easy fight to score.

Let's get this out of the way. Katie Taylor is a dirty fighter. I hate the Billy Goat style. It is not aesthetically pleasing. However it is a style of boxing that goes back to the beginnings of the sport. This is not a new strategy for men or women. From Harry Greb to Fritzie Zivic to Sandy Saddler to Evander Holyfield and many more, it's been a staple of the sport, and if a ref sees it as your "fighting style", they are loathe to punish you to the point of negating the bout.

Amanda Serrano did her best to put on an aesthetically pleasing fight. It was not in Katie Taylor's interest to do the same. Time after time, Taylor smothered Serrano, butted her, and then she would take two steps back, unleash a quick, flashy combination to Serrano's head, and then get back in her grill, where Serrano didn't have the room to extend her punches, and couldn't do much more then push her punches off to try and get more room, and land a few body shots, that ringside judges notoriously have a hard time seeing as effective blows.

Of course Serrano did land her fair share of nice head shots to, but not to the extent that Compubox was telling you she did.

Again, I would have rather Serrano won, but understand why she didn't. Either way it should lead to another great payday for both fighters down the line.

I thought the fight overall was pretty sloppy. Sure, lots of action, but sloppy as hell. Again, no fault of Serrano's...but fights aren't judged for how pretty they look.

The Barrios vs. Ramos fight I believe was the fight of the night, because of that.

#4. Lastly, the announcing for the whole event, was beyond bad. I think the worst I've ever heard. Roy Jones makes some great points during fights, but he's a horrible announcer. Would have rather Andre Ward was in there during the bouts, and Roy Jones back at that useless round table between fights. Romullo.....or whatever his name is. Great, great, great....Pro Wrestling announcer. Terrible boxing announcer. No technical knowledge whatsoever, for an alleged play by play commentator.....and then Rosie Perez???? Oh man, I like Rosie, I really do......but no........no. Not for this. Each on their own might have been ok...but they just had horrible chemistry together.

Fini!
