I agree with everyone else. It looks great Marc.
Does the suede backing prevent the pennant moving?

Yes, the suede mat holds the pennant in place.
There are a number of framed pennants in the current Hunt auction. Some are clearly attached to the backing with some kind of thread. See the attached pic (to the right of the 1924). It seems like that method doesn't hold things in place all that well, leads to some puckering, and also could damage the pennant. I'm not sure what the other options are (tape?). I used my one last scrap, made some no room for error cuts with an exacto knife, and was able to get the seam in the mat under the spine. Now I just need to find some wall space.

The two things that really hold me back are lack of wall space and of course money. Other than that I would go crazy. 😁

I much prefer to apply gentle pressure of the glass/acrylic... just enough to hold the pennant in place without inflicting any damage. I've never incurred one iota of damage (doing it the same way as your Oversized Giants) for the past 35 years.

From the “Companion Pieces” thread…
Were these just someone else’s pennants? WGN’s maybe?

Whoa.... I don't know anything about this distributor; but, the full size pennants featured are both by ADFLAG.
Not sure about the minis ... but, ADFLAG would make sense.

I was just in touch with someone who actually owns a couple pennants I thought “might only exist in pictures.” They exist, but he’s not selling.

Looks like the Walter Johnson went for a cool $11k. If that doesn’t include the BP, you can add another $2k.

Thanks, Rob. That seems pretty much in the ballpark, maybe even a little low for such an extreme rarity with such significance.

Well, it beats a 1-poor ‘52 Mantle.

All depends on what floats your boat, I guess. I love cards, too, but I've always been dumbfounded by what their cost can get you on the memorabilia side, but the proof is there as to which is the 800-lb gorilla, with autographs coming in second. Pennants are a particular favorite of mine.

There are less than 3 known copies of the Walter Johnson Pennant, and literally thousands of "beater" '52 Mantles, either raw or in low grade. There's simply no contest regarding which piece displays better. I will never figure out the gigantic premium put on pieces of mass-produced cardboard that have no connection to the player.
The winning bidder probably paid about $14,250 with the BP, state tax and shipping included. I also thought it might do a bit better, but am not too surprised. The Yankees pennant Gary referenced should have gone for triple what it did. Tough to predict these erratic outcomes, but that's just the nature of Live Auctions.
